Tatreez Pattern Assistant

Translate paintings and drawings into stitchable tatreez-style charts: choose a grid size, compare styles, and export PNG / TXT / JSON for hand editing.

Generate stitchable charts

This tool helps translate images into stitchable tatreez-style charts. It can compare levels of detail and simplify shapes so the design stays readable at different sizes. Run again with another grid height to compare sizes, or use instructions to preserve shape while simplifying.

Works best with drawings on white, black, or transparent backgrounds.

Black ink on white or light paper? The results list Line art — best for black outline drawings first—that keeps outlines stitchable without turning the piece into a solid fill. Clean pixelated and Pixelated give color-block charts for shaded art. Shape faithful and Manual tatreez simplify with silhouette-style fills—use when you want that look, not for pure line art.

Advanced settings

Luminance strictly below this counts as ink (0–255). Typical scanned ink/paper: ~200–210.

0 = max-pool (any ink pixel marks the cell). Otherwise fraction of cell area that must be ink (e.g. 0.02–0.08).

Padding around detected ink bbox as a fraction of the longer page side (before gridding).

Optional: describe simple changes, e.g. “remove the ground”, “use line art”, “keep only the character”, “thicker outline”.

Claude can suggest settings from your image and instructions. The stitch chart is still generated by the local pipeline.

Images sent to Claude are processed by Anthropic. Disable this option to keep processing fully local.

If this box is empty, the general Instructions field above is sent to Claude instead.

AI cleanup is not configured. Set OPENAI_API_KEY or TATREEZ_AI_API_KEY, or TATREEZ_AI_MOCK=1 for local testing, then reload this page.
